When you say "BBQ" and "St. Simons Island" in the same sentence, the first thing out of the other person's mouth is "Southern Soul", and in that sense, Beachcomber BBQ is the Rodney Dangerfield of BBQ on the island. It gets no respect and is a little like Dangerfield's 1986 semi-hit Back to School. You are not going to download it on iTunes, but if it is on Nick at Night there are a couple of funny parts and you might watch for a bit.

Let's start with the pluses. The pork was respectable. It was tender and had a good flavor. I also enjoyed their tomato based sauce. The kids also liked their sandwich and fries, but, to be fair, I don't recall them ever pushing their fries away.
Somehow, the experience just doesn't quite come together. The coke machine was a little antiquated and delivered a slightly flat beverage. Lemon in plastic container? OK. We are at the beach and I need to quit being picky.
My main complaint was the extraordinary mayonnaise laden coleslaw. There is something fundamentally disgusting about a mayo pop sickle in 95 degree weather.
If you only have one BBQ meal in you while at the beach, then by all means, hit the Big Kahuna. However, if you are looking for a laid back BBQ joint with no line, then swing on in Beachcombers. Just don't order the slaw.
OVERALL: 🕷 🕷(Worth a pop in)
Pork: 🐷🐷 (worth the trip)
