Big E's BBQ - Columbus, GA

BBQ restaurants in Columbus are like water around a boat. For a pork enthusiast like me, it is a target rich environment. However, with so many competitors, new comers have a hard time standing out, but not Big E.

Dorfman and I happened on to Big E's on July 14th and as a happy coincidence we got to celebrate the start of Big E's third year of business. I felt like it was my birthday though and my wish of eating a fantastic Cue lunch just came true.

Big E's occupies what appears to be an old Wendy's, but this is a big step up from your typical fast food joint.

As I approached the counter, the wonderful wood-fire smoke danced out and my mouth just started watering.

The biggest decision I had was what to order. I almost went with combo #1, the Easy E, because it reminded me of my buddy "Brad" who in high school used to hang out in the back seat of my car with his girl friend cranking NWA and chugging Bartles and Jaymes. - Not exactly Compton. (Not his real name - here at Tasty Wilbur we believe in protecting the innocent).

After a brief giggle to myself about "Brad", it was back to the serious business of ordering. I went with the standard - Pork Plate with stew and slaw. That's when the next choice hit me from behind the register - "you want that chopped, sliced or chipped?" Chipped, you might be asking yourself..... because I sure was. Sometimes you just have to make an executive decision, so chipped it is. This choice was a winner, but I don't think you can go wrong at Big E's.

The stew was awesome too and I have added it to my "The Best" list. The consistency was great and it was full of flavor without any unnecessary add ins.

I got the "BBQ" slaw, which was fine, but I probably will order the regular next time.

The meat is tasty on it's own, but if you like sauces, all four, yes four, are solid.

In short, the meal was so good that I am not sure Dorf spoke at all. Just Mmmm followed by Mmmm and another Mmmm.

OVERALL: 🕷🕷🕷 (good solid Q)
