Fresh Air BBQ - Macon, GA

Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee, It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie.

No clue as to what Alan Jackson means here, but for some odd reason this song makes me think of Macon. The weird thing is that the Chattahoochee comes no where close to Macon, so the mysteries of my mind will continue to elude me.

However, there is no mystery on where to find good BBQ in Macon. If you are a Macon local, this institution needs no introduction, but if you are in Atlanta preparing for your mandatory summer beach trip, this place needs to be on your travel itinerary . Conveniently located just off of I-75 on Riverside Drive in Macon, Fresh Air BBQ has been serving up rock solid BBQ since 1929.

This place is no muss, no fuss. Swing in here and you will be smiling with a belly full on sunshine as you ride on down I-16.

Little heads up to those other BBQ restaurants out there....if you are going to serve chopped bbq, this is how you do it. The lightly smoked pork is good on its own and great with the Fresh Air tomato based sauce.

The coleslaw is the best I have had since Chick-fil-a stopped making theirs in favor of a kale salad (seriously? kale?)

OK, Fresh Air, all that hard work and perseverance since 1929 is paying off. Drum roll please, cue the angels singing in the background.....WELCOME TO #1 on Tasty Wilbur's BEST STEW list.

The stew checks all the boxes, taste, consistently, and flavor. There are no potatoes or lima beans to ruin this masterpiece. So if you are heading down to the beach from Atlanta, save a little room in the cooler for a pint of to go stew. You can thank me later.

OVERALL: 🕷🕷🕷 (old reliable)

Pork: 🐷🐷🐷 (good)
